2011 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Confirmed

Mark Fields, Ford President of the Americas, announced last week that Ford plans on building a production Boss 302. In showy but rightful fashion, a 1970 Boss 302 went ripping across the stage as the clue to what they’re building.
Arriving in early 2011 as a 2012 model, the Boss 302 is expected to produce at least 440-hp, and will be quite collectible for it’s first reappearance model year. As time goes on, if it’s still offered, it will be widely available such as the GT500′s are now, even for 2011.
What’s next, a Mach 1? Another Mystic? A Boss 427? What an exciting new century.
Add Power With Cams and Phaser Limiters for 3v’s
The 3-valve 4.6-liter V8 Mustangs may soon be overshadowed by the brilliant new 5.0-liter 2011 Mustang GT’s. That doesn’t have to mean being slower than their new brethren! With the new Stangs starting at over $30,000, the former 2005-2009 Mustangs can be bought and outfitted nicely for less cash.
One tried and true way to increase performance, especially with non-stock engines is with cam phasers, which adjust the cam timing so the intake valve closes sooner at lower rpm and later at higher rpm. Timing is normally retarded about 10 degrees when measured in crankshaft rotation at full throttle, but at part throttle Ford calibration can retard timing as much as 60 degrees for better fuel mileage and reduced emissions.
Anytime you advance the cam, the intake valves get closer to the pistons, and anytime you retard the cam, the exhaust valves get closer. If precautions aren’t taken, then an aggressive cam could smash and burn all the valves into the pistons.
Along comes Comp, whose phaser-limiter kit allows the cams to be retarded a max of 10 degrees so you can slap in healthier cams for more power. With the limiter and new cams, you can get 25-30 additional horsepower at the rear wheels.
By also swapping out the valvesprings you can get 48-hp added at the rear wheels. You can get even more power by tweaking the cam timing curves in the computer. The cost of just the limiter is $185.75 from Summit Racing.

Shelby Announces Supercharged And Auto Tranny Naturally Aspirated GT350
Shelby American announced last week that they will be offering street versions of the GT350 to include a naturally-aspirated model with either a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission, as well as a supercharged version, which will be available as soon as late summer 2010.
The additions are being offered to meet consumer demand for an automatic as well as to comply with SCCA requirements. Like most Shelby offerings, you can order a 2011 Mustang GT from a dealer and have it drop-shipped to the Shelby plant in Las Vegas to have it transformed into a GT350.
The cost for transformation will be $26,995 for the N/A (naturally aspirated) version, plus any options, not including the base Ford Mustang GT (about $30,000). The GT350 will cost $33,995, on top of the price of the base GT.
The GT350 is powered by the brilliant new 5.0-liter V8 coupled to a 6 speed transmission. Shelby adds 14” rotors with 6-piston front calipers with ERADISPEED rotors on the back and cooling ducts for all four corners. The suspension features new Ford Racing springs, struts, sway bars and adjustable caster/camber plates.
For shoes, it wears Goodyear 19” tires with a new, aggressive compound. Each GT350 will be clad in traditional white with Shelby Guardsman blue Le Mans stripes. The GT350 features new front fascia, tail light trim, front splitter, rear deck-lid filler panel and rear fascia. Functional scoops are located on the side rockers and hood. Of course, GT350 badges adorn the outside and inside, which also bears a Shelby serial number.
Customers interested in either a supercharged or normally aspirated GT350 should call (702) 942-7325 or log onto http://gt350.shelbyamerican.com.
