BOSS 302 Crate Motors Released

Posted by StangPit On May - 8 - 2011

Ford unleashed their sweet BOSS 302 motors as crate motors available from Ford Racing.  Now with a mere $12 G’s we can all slap one of these bad boys under our hoods and rip our tires off this summer.  Sure it’s $5000 more than the  2011 Mustang GT 5.0L motor for only 30 more HP, but why screw around?

Personally, I would get the $7000 412-hp Mustang GT motor then buy a BOSS 302 intake instead for $440 if you’re just going for the BOSS look under the hood with better performance than the outgoing 4.6L motor.

Here’s what Ford had to say about this sweet new crate offering:

“Ford Racing’s aluminum 5.0L Mustang Boss 302 crate engine is a modern 5.0L 32-valve DOHC V-8 that uses advanced features like Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) and high flow CNC cylinder heads to deliver 444 horsepower and 380 ft.-lb.+ of torque (with premium fuel)

  • 11.0:1 compression ratio
  • Lightweight aluminum cylinder block features cross-bolted main bearing caps and thick main bearing bulkheads for bottom-end strength
  • Features large sump 8.5 qt oil pan with revised oil pan baffling for improved oil control under hard cornering
  • Revised composite intake system with shorter runners, inspired by Ford Racing’s Daytona Prototype engine program
  • 80 mm single bore “drive by wire” throttlebody
  • High-strength aluminum-alloy cylinder heads with fully CNC-machined ports and chambers for exceptional high-rpm airflow without sacrificing low-speed torque
  • Sodium-filled exhaust valves for improved heat dissipation
  • Forged aluminum pistons and upgraded sinter-forged connecting rods for improved strength
  • Includes manual transmission engine harness and flywheel
  • Vehicle harness and PCM not included
  • Engine weight: 444 lbs

Mustang Production Grinds To A Halt

Posted by StangPit On April - 27 - 2011

Last month, Ford announced they are having problems with suppliers in Japan that were devastated by the earthquake and tsunami.  They first stated that only certain colors of paint ordered from Japan would not be available.  Soon afterwards, they announced some Ford plants would cease production indefinitely due to supply shortages.

One Piece at a Time

Ford has closed production plants at Flat Rock, MI where the Mustang is built.  They did not say when production would resume.  It was supposed to resume this month, but will there be enough 2012 Mustangs for the masses?  What if the weather actually turns nice again for summer?  Though doubtful, the people will want their new Mustangs!!

Steeda Releases BOSS 302 Ultimate Induction Pak

Boss 302 Ultimate Induction Pak Upgrade for 5.0L Mustangs

Steeda has recently announced a Boss 302 Induction Upgrade Pak for all 5.0 L Mustangs.  It comes with the Boss 302 composite intake, and new intake tube, tuning program, and more, all to support both naturally aspirated and nitrous applications.  Read on!

Massive Air Eater

From Steeda.com:

“Are you ready for one of the best performance upgrades for your 2011 5.0L Mustang? The Steeda Autosports Skunk Works Team has been working feverishly on creating a new Ultimate Induction Pak that utilizes the Boss 302 composite intake as a key induction upgrade component along with our proprietary Pro Flow Cold Air Intake. Rather than marketing just a piecemeal solution, we have been burning the midnight oil, aggressively working on a performance package offering that provides a thoroughly engineered solution for both naturally aspirated and nitrous applications. Rest assured that the Steeda Boss 302 Ultimate Induction Pak is being extensively tested to deliver optimal performance for track, street, and dragstrip performance and to deliver the level of performance you have come to expect from Steeda Autosports.

2011-steeda-induction-pak-50-2

Lookin Good Under the Hood!

While others in the industry will sell you the Boss intake and a tune created on only a dynamometer and then offer you “free tunes for life”, we have chosen to take a much more comprehensive and racer orientated approach by using the dyno as a baseline, then like we do with all of our performance parts, test all of the package components under severe racing conditions to make sure that complete induction system and tune delivers the level of optimum performance under all conditions you may encounter with your ride. Using advance data acquisition equipment and extensive “seat of the pants” knowledge we have gained by racing at the track and at the dragstrip for over 25 years, the Steeda Boss 302 Ultimate Induction Pak is just what the name implies – the ULTIMATE in naturally aspirated induction for the 5.0L powertrain.

The performance figures we have seen have just been amazing so far – especially at the upper RPM range where initial testing has shown tremendous power increases all the way to the redline. Track and dragstrip tests have also been extremely impressive – surpassing our own high expectations for this power package! For those that are incline to want a nitrous injection, we are also developing an integrated solution that is completely compatible with our induction system.

What are the specific power increases we have been able to attain with both the naturally aspirated and nitrous applications? Before we lay all of our cards down, it is important to know that we are still tweaking our Induction Pak under our ISO 9001-2008 certified procedures….and we were so impressed with the preliminary results that we have that we felt compelled to get the word out to you today that this is going to be one really hot performance ticket to have on your 5.0L Mustang. So look for an upcoming email in the very near future as well as news on www.steeda.com for full details. It definitely will be worth waiting for!”

Components included in the Steeda Boss 302 Ultimate Induction Pak for 5.0L engines will include:

  • Boss 302 Composite Intake
  • Steeda High Velocity Cold Air Intake with Cool Tube Technology
  • Steeda Performance Tune maximized for total system performance
  • SCT X3 Power Flash Tool for easy flashing operations
  • Comprehensive instructions for easy do-it-yourself installation
  • Steeda – Mastering Speed for over 23 Years

2012 Boss 302 Mustang Arriving At Dealers!

Posted by StangPit On April - 13 - 2011

The sweet 2012 Boss 302 Mustangs have been produced since February in Flat Rock, Michigan.  They are just starting to arrive at some dealerships around the country.  If you ask your local dealer, they are likely to give you the same old line, “yeah we’re not sure when we are getting those, or if we are getting any”.  Then you find out they get one the next day or next week.

Color Me Red!

Not all dealers will receive a Boss 302, even fewer will see Laguna Seca versions, which have popped up with $90,000 asking prices.  This is a 200% markup which is really uncalled for, until someone pays that price.  Some will see around sticker price, especially for the “standard” Boss 302.

For those of you in the Chicago area, I can say that Spring Hill Ford in Dundee has said they will “never mark up a car higher than list” whereas a different Ford dealer 5 minutes away was marking up even base GT models back in 2005 to $5000 over list.  It pays to shop around people!

Shelby Releases GT350 Red, White, and Blue ‘Verts!

Posted by StangPit On February - 10 - 2011

Hot news from SHELBY AMERICAN!  They announced yesterday that the 2012 Shelby GT350 will also be available in Red, White, and Blue convertibles.  Hopefully they will be available while it’s still warm out later this year.  From the Shelby website:

RED, WHITE AND BLUE CONVERTIBLE OPTIONS FOR 2012 SHELBY GT350
Shelby American announces first convertible option for GT350 since 1970!

  • Two new color options: Race Red and Kona Blue; both with white LeMans stripes
  • A limited production of 350 will be built, all at Shelby American in Las Vegas

CHICAGO – Feb. 9, 2011 – Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI:PK) today introduced the limited edition 2012 Shelby GT350 during the Chicago Auto Show, being held at the McCormick Place complex. A convertible, the first since 1970, and two new body colors (red and blue) will be options for the 2012 model year. In addition, a limited production of 350 total 2012 Shelby GT350s will be built.

2012 Topless Trio

“Last year, we brought back the GT350 45 years after it was launched,” said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby American. “They look and sound just like the ones we built in 1965. We’re repeating history by offering two additional colors and building a few convertibles for the second year of production.”

Shelby American built 562 total GT350 fastback coupes in 1965; all were painted white with blue stripes. In 1966, Shelby added more color options for the hardtops. Four convertibles were also built; today they are among the most collectible Shelbys in the world.

“Delays in the delivery of the new five liter Mustang last year resulted in fewer 45th Anniversary GT350 coupes than expected in the 2011 model year,” added John Luft, president of Shelby American. “For the 2012 model year, we brought back the first GT350 convertible since 1970 and ramped up production to meet the expected demand. Our plan is to only build 350 total 2012 model year GT350s to maintain exclusivity and future collectability.”

The Shelby GT350 is a post-title program based on the Ford Mustang GT. The 2012 Shelby GT350 performance specs will be continued from the 2011 model year. Customers can choose a 430 HP normally aspirated, 525 HP supercharged or 624 HP supercharged version. An automatic transmission is optional with the normally aspirated engine, as well as a short throw shifter for the manual.

Color combinations for the 2012 Shelby GT350s include Performance White with blue LeMans stripes, Race Red with white LeMans stripes and Kona Blue with white LeMans stripes. The convertible will offer a new optional light bar; other options include a once piece drive shaft and color coordinated billet aluminum engine cap set.

“When it comes to performance of the current generation GT350, our team did a great job right out of the gate,” quipped Gary Patterson, vice president of operations at Shelby American. “The GT350 leaves its mark on the street that says ‘a Shelby was here’. That’s why we’re packing the ‘12 model with all the same performance as the 2011 Shelby’s.”

The Shelby GT350 post-title package starts at $26,995.00 (normally aspirated) and $33,995.00 (supercharged), not including the base car. Customers interested in a Shelby GT350 should contact the Shelby American sales department at (702) 942-7325 or go to www.shelbyamerican.com.

$3 is all you need to buy a ticket, and you have until July 4th of 2011 to buy one.  You can also donate tickets, buy one for someone in the Armed Forces, and split the prize with one of the soldiers.  Winner will be notified on July 15, 2011.

2012 Patriot Edition Boss 302

In cooperation with Healing Heroes Network, Ford Motor Company has created a stunning one-of-a-kind Boss Mustang entitled the “Patriot Edition,” to honor the brave troops served by our programs.

2012 Boss 302 Patriot Edition

In 1969 Ford produced a factory racer that soon became legendary, winning many races and the Trans-Am series championship in 1970. This one-of-a-kind 2012 Boss boasting 440 horsepower was created in the iconic image of the original.

The Patriot Edition serial 1 of 1 is the only 2012 Boss Mustang finished in Calypso Coral, as well as several other unique modifications. One-of-a-kind emblems confirm its unique place in automotive history. The Ford design team has signed the car, verifying its authenticity.

1969 Boss 302 Mustang

Ford designed a purpose built racecar to compete in Trans-Am series races, requiring a limited amount of cars to be sold to the public. Sporting a 4 Speed trans, Calypso Coral paint and 3.91 axle this rare car is one of only 46 built with these options. This fully restored rare example has only 40,000 original miles and has been inspected for authenticity and comes complete with thoroughbred documentation.

The obvious Boss modifications scream out muscle car from any angle. Underestimated from the factory at 290 horsepower this car is a thrill to drive. No automatic here, you’ll have to go through the gears yourself with the four speed transmission.

So go buy several of these raffle tickets and good luck to everyone!

Happy New Year!
Message from the Founder/Editor:
Here’s to a great 2011 for everyone.  To our loyal fans, thanks for hanging in there during the slow times.  I want to make it clear that Stang Pit is committed to bringing you more CAR SHOWS, more NEWS, more PICTURES, and more MUSTANGS in 2011 than ever before!

As you know, there hasn’t been a lot of front page updates lately.  I have been working on the back end and data collection lately and I’m glad you stuck around.  In addition to running this website, I also run 4 other websites,I have a full-time job, do side-jobs, am trying to start a business, and  have a strong urge to play and record music frequently.  I’ve been working on an album and learning as much as I can.

Enough about me.  If you’re like me and live in a northern climate with nasty winters, than you are pretty sick of this weather by now.  As I type up this year’s Car Show and Mustang events across the country, I start longing for the warm summer days of washing and waxing the Stang and cruising around with the windows down.  It will be here before you know it.

Look on the bright side, since December 21st, the days are getting longer and longer!
Happy New Year everyone, and keep checking back for frequent updates this year.

Thanks,
-Mike
